A Day In The Life Of A Bee

The existence of bees is highly important for our survival.
Theory has it that if the last bee dies on this planet, mankind will survive no more than 3 years. So, whether this theory is correct or not, it proves one thing. Most people have a fear of bees, and this normally stems from the fear of others placed on us from an early age. After the tour, this fear will almost be eliminated as you start to understand why bees do bee things.
The Tour Guide
The Tour Will Be Hosted By a Registered Beekeeper
You will be entering into the world of bees, there is a possibility that one naughty little bee will try to sting you. It is the tour guides job to ensure this does not happen. So, if it does happen and if you are allergic, please bring your medication.

Let the Tour Begin
The tour will begin with a motivational talk on bees and how they work and live. Depending on the time of year and the conditions of the day, we will open a hive and you will see first-hand what bees do inside and why they do the things they do.

Will You Spot the Queen?
We cannot make any promises what you will see or what the outcomes are as we never know beforehand what is happening in the hive.

Extract Your Own Organic Honey
If there has been enough production, we will remove some frames and start uncapping them to prepare for the honey extraction where you will get your hands all sticky and extract some honey yourself and get to keep a bottle of the honey that you have extracted.

The Tour Will Take 3-4 Hours
Enjoy this wonderful experience of getting close-up with bees in a very safe environment.
Bee Tour Precautions
To Protect Yourself, Here Are a Few Precautions:
- Wear an overall (jumpsuit) or loose clothes that cover you well and that any opening around your neck, wrists / arms and legs are tight fitting so that bees cannot get into your clothing. Wear jeans with no holes in as bees will find them.
- Avoid bright, patterned, and black / dark clothing. Khaki, beige, or blue colours work best.
- Wear closed shoes. It is best to wear hiking boots or any shoe that covers your ankles (bees love ankles). If you do not have any of these, make sure that you wear thick socks.
- Avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, or other heavy scents, or using scented soaps, shampoos, and basically anything that makes you smell nice as bees are attracted to or react to odours (that’s how they find pollen).
- Applying insect repellents or bug sprays to your skin or clothing will NOT keep bees away.
- We will provide a protective hood that will cover your head and shoulders. For additional comfort, bring a cap.
- Working with bees is safe provided you don’t mess with them. We will give you a lot of information and guide you as we go along to keep you safe. Many people have come through this experience, and no one has ever been seriously stung
